Case 230

Rubí Frayre & Marisela Escobedo

*** Content Warning: child victim, domestic violence, gun violence ***

When 16-year-old Rubí Frayre went missing from the Mexican city of Juarez, police showed little interest. Exasperated, Rubí’s mother, Marisela Escobedo, took it upon herself to uncover the truth about her daughter’s fate.

For the next two years, Marisela’s unrelenting quest for justice exposed an incompetent judiciary, the power of the cartels, and government complicity… all culminating in further tragedy for Marisela and her family.
