Case 27
West Mesa Bone Collector
*** Content Warning: child victims, serial killer ***
Between 2001 and 2005, 11 young women went missing from Albuquerque and the surrounding New Mexico area. As the women were mostly involved with drugs and sex work, police didn’t take their disappearances seriously and were reluctant to investigate or draw any links.
Then in 2009, a woman was walking her dog in Albuquerque’s West Mesa area when she noticed something strange sticking out of the ground – a human femur bone. As investigators flocked to the area, it became clear this was no isolated incident. The grisly discovery was part of the much larger burial ground of a serial killer who they soon titled ‘The West Mesa Bone Collector’.
